INDIGENOUS ARE ESSENTIAL FOR THE EXISTENCE OF THE ATLANTIC
FOREST
Abstract
Indigenous peoples who live within the Atlantic Forest are those who most help the forests to
survive. This document aims to explain why and how indigenous people do this. This research was
based on our trip, made in June 2023 to Paraty and Ubatuba, where we visited an indigenous village
(Tekoa Jaexaá Porã) and had a conversation with the chief about life there. Therefore, it is
concluded that the main reason why the Atlantic Forest is still relatively preserved is the awareness
of the indigenous people in relation to its preservation. If the forest is not conserved, they know
what will be the consequences and how it affects living beings, which include animals, plants, and
also humans.
